About the Ledger
The Simmer Ledger began as a shared notebook between two home cooks who were tired of recipes buried under pages of chatter. We wanted a place where every dish is written plainly, tested in an ordinary kitchen and filed so you can find it again.
We cook what we actually eat: soups on cold evenings, quick mains for busy nights, a steady supply of cookies and the occasional project for the weekend. Each recipe lists real prep and cooking times and tells you what can go wrong.
The desk
Margaret Hale — Recipe editor. Keeps a card file of every dish she has cooked since 1998.
Owen Pryce — Weeknight cook and bread enthusiast. Writes the soups and sides column.
